We have launched a NEW lesson plan, to help empower all teachers, parents and pupils to learn about the ocean and climate crisis and the immense impact of collective action!

As the generation who will have to live with the consequences of climate breakdown and ecological disaster, young people have led the way in climate action and protests, sending the message that we are currently losing in the race for our lives.

In January, we launched our Ocean and Climate Emergency Petition to provide a platform for pupils to call on the UK government to tackle the ocean and climate crisis. So far, almost 25,000 people have signed the petition, including over 10,800 school pupils!

This is yet another reminder that without youth voices, the climate movement would not be where it is today and that we must continue to give #PowerToThePupils to ensure young people are heard by those in power.

Education and awareness building are some of the most important tools to initiate the changes we want to see in our future. Increasing each other’s understanding of climate change encourages a change in attitudes and behaviour and empowers individuals to demand the government takes environmental action.

There is no Planet B for Climate Change

We are equipping teachers and pupils with the knowledge and resources to use their voice and take-action to address the ocean and climate crisis, and sign the petition. Today, we have launched an educational resource pack, including a lesson plan and short video, to answer all the key questions about the ocean and climate crisis!

This 45-minute activity dives deep into the Ocean and Climate Emergency; exploring the superpower of coastal and marine carbon sequestration, ‘meeting’ prominent youth climate activists and encouraging informed discussion of the complex issues. Pupils will be left feeling inspired and ready to create waves of real change.

The lesson plan will allow students to make an informed decision about whether they want to sign the ocean and climate petition, empowering them to use their voice and take action for the environment! It will also answer the following burning questions:

  1. What is the ocean and climate crisis?
  2. What is COP26 and why is it so important?
  3. How can blue carbon habitats help tackle the climate crisis?
  4. What can we do to make a difference?

The youth of today are the decision-makers of the future, so the inclusion of the ocean and climate crisis in their education plays a pivotal role in tackling this global emergency. It’s time to put our minds into action and help save our blue planet.
